Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing southern Gaza in a quickly growing crisis as Israel issues a grave evacuation warning.
The warning comes after a succession of missile strikes and rising tensions, with a possible ground offensive against Hamas looming in reprisal for what Israel claims to be the deadliest attack in its history.
The situation is deteriorating, with Gaza’s health system already overburdened, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) voicing dire warnings, and the United Nations issuing a $294 million emergency appeal to meet critical needs in Gaza and the West Bank.
In the waves of missile strikes, about 1,800 Gazans, including over 580 children, have died.
In preparation for a possible ground offensive, Israel has collected tanks near the Gaza Strip.

In the next few days, Israel will operate “significantly” in Gaza City. The timetable for civilians’ safe return is unclear.
Meanwhile, Hamas rejects the Israeli evacuation order, saying the Palestinian people will remain on their land steadfast.
This refusal to flee complicates matters further.
Aid agencies and the United Nations pleaded immediately for the evacuation order to be suspended, citing the fact that mass evacuations would strain resources that are already scarce owing to the Israeli blockade, resulting in a lack of fuel, food, and water.
Health systems in Gaza are near collapse as the number of casualties rises.
“One million people, no food, no water, and they’re bombing them as they leave,” said Elizabeth El-Nakla, who was visiting Gaza from Scotland.
Furthermore, The magnitude of this issue is difficult to grasp.
