Bangladesh Train Collision: 17 Dead, Over 100 People Injured

In a terrible incidence in Bangladesh, a train crash took the lives of 17 people and injured over 100 more. This miserable train tragedy occurred when two trains crashed in the eastern city of Bhairab, raising fears that the death toll may rise further.

A freight train collided with a passenger train heading in the opposite direction, resulting in the accident. Two passenger coaches derailed as a result of this powerful impact.

Sadiq ur Rahman, a government administrator, reported the recovery of 17 bodies and the injuries of more than 100 persons. He expressed concern that the death toll will climb as rescue efforts continue.

Rahman stated that a rescue train deployed containing cranes to aid in the recovery efforts. Rescuers have discovered bodies trapped beneath overturned carriages, which is tragic. Local citizens and volunteers raced to the accident site as soon as they heard about it to help.

The collision happened about 4 p.m. (1000 GMT).

Rahman said this miserable tragedy happened when one train accidentally joined the same track as the other.

Footage shot portrayed a heartbreaking image of a large crowd gathered at the accident site, many of whom were in tears as they searched for their loved ones.

According to Nazmul Haque, a dedicated Red Crescent volunteer, they were able to save at least two people alive from the wrecked carriages.

Officials have dispatched resources to the crash site, including firefighters, police, and the elite Rapid Action Battalion security unit. Bangladeshi officials have launched two investigations into the causes of the tragic train accident.

Additionally, volunteers have been asked to donate blood, as the injured victims require immediate medical attention.

The freight train had overshot its signal, according to Nazmul Islam, general manager of the state-owned Bangladesh Railway.

Train accidents are unfortunately common in Bangladesh due to poor signaling systems, incompetence, aged railway rails, and general infrastructure in chaos.
