When sending images through WhatsApp, do you have to compromise on the quality of the images? Here’s some good news!. WhatsApp now allows users to send high-quality photos to contacts. HD quality is only available when you try to send a large-resolution file from WhatsApp. The new feature, available on both Android and iOS, enhances the clarity and detail of your precious moments.
WhatsApp has always been at the forefront of innovation, and HD photo sharing is yet another testament to that commitment. By applying lighter compression, the feature improves image quality significantly even though it does not transmit full-resolution images. As a result, your images will retain their stunning visuals without compromising on file size.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp beta testers are now able to share HD-quality images on both Android and iOS. WhatsApp beta version 23.11.0.76 for iOS, as well as WhatsApp beta version 2.23.12.13 for Android, now includes the latest addition.
In the screenshot above, you can see the option to send HD-quality images right next to the crop icon. On the lower left corner of the image, you will see an “HD” watermark.
There is, however, one catch. You will not be able to use this option until you share large images. You will not be able to send images in their full resolution even then. However, some compression will still be applied to the images.WhatsApp only maintains the image’s aspect ratio at full resolution. You will also notice that Standard is enabled. Therefore, the HD option must be manually enabled every time you share an image.
Additionally, large files of up to 2GB in size can be sent, as already announced. Please note that this feature is only available for images. Your shared videos will still be aggressively compressed by WhatsApp. Videos should be shared in shared documents in order to avoid that. For now, at least.
The implementation isn’t smooth and is clunky, as you might have already guessed. For now, only a few iOS and Android beta testers have access to this feature. However, we expect a wider beta rollout for both platforms soon. By the time the feature is available to everyone we hope WhatsApp will smoothen some of the rough edges.
