PTI Chairman Imran Khan, has been summoned to appear in court on November 27 in the £190 million settlement case. Following the recent hearing, the accountability court, presided over by Judge Muhammad Bashir, issued a comprehensive five-page order, extending the former prime minister’s physical remand by four days.
Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi, Deputy Prosecutor General NAB, has asked an additional 10-day remand, highlighting the need for further investigation into the money sent to the national treasury.
According to the court ruling, Advocate Ali Zafar answered to the NAB summons on November 23, producing pertinent paperwork, including a March 24, 2021 agreement.
However, the defense team objected to the extension and submit two letters. One, dated November 6, 2019, related to Mashreq Bank and claimed Imran’s non-involvement in the fund transfers.
Despite the NAB, the prosecution argued that Imran had no involvement in the transfer of 240 kanals of land. The defense highlighted Imran’s philanthropic activities, particularly the development of two cancer hospitals in Karachi, with a third currently under construction.
The judge granted PTI Chairman a four-day physical remand instead of the required ten days, designating November 27 as the next date for him to appear in court.
This comes after the Islamabad High Court ruled that the law ministry’s notifications about Imran’s detention trial were “without lawful authority and without legal effect.”
The judge highlighted that the procedures in Imran Khan’s cipher case trial held in jail thus far remained null and invalid.
