PML-N has reached an agreement with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by Jahangir Tareen, for seat adjustment. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has gained another significant political partnership in a volatile political landscape as it prepares for the general elections that will take place on February 8, 2024.
The important event occurred following a meeting between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and IPP patron-in-chief Jahangir Tareen at Shehbaz Sharif’s Model Town mansion in Lahore. Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq of the PML-N, and Aun Chaudhry of the IPP also took part in the discussions.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the country’s current political situation and the possibility of seat adjustment in the next elections on February 8.
While the details of the seat distribution are still being worked out, the agreement is a smart move for both major parties.
This follows the PML-N’s recent seat adjustment agreement with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), in which both parties agreed on seat adjustments for vital constituencies.
The prospect of an alliance between the IPP and the PML-N in Punjab has the potential to drastically alter the political landscape. It represents an opportunity for the PML-N to strengthen its dominance in Pakistan’s most populous province.
At the same time, it boosts the Tareen-led IPP, which has succeeded in captivating significant figures from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
IPP, led by Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan, has become the favored alternative for several PTI defectors, including famous leaders such as Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, Firdous Ashiq Awan, and Murad Raas, since its formation in June of this year.
The alliance with the PML-N adds another dimension to the developing political environment, elevating it to the status of a significant force ahead of the elections.
