On Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that the decision to deport unlawful Immigrants living in the country complies with both sovereign internal laws and international standards.
This statement is in response to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) recommendation that Pakistan suspend deportations as the November 1 deadline approaches.
The decision to deport unlawful immigrants, according to spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, is an exercise of Pakistan’s sovereign domestic laws and is in accordance with applicable international norms and principles.
The UNHCR had requested Pakistani authorities to postpone deportations, citing the November 1 deadline.
According to Baloch, the unlawful immigrants Repatriation Plan (IFRP) applies to all unlawful immigrants residing in Pakistan, regardless of nationality or country of origin. It does not effect legal foreign nationals registered in Pakistan.
Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the protection and safety of people in vulnerable situations. She emphasized the country’s four-decade legacy of harboring millions of Afghan refugees, emphasizing its commitment to humanitarian principles.
The Foreign Office spokesperson urged the international community to step up efforts to handle protracted refugee situations by prioritizing long-term solutions.
Pakistan maintained its commitment to working with foreign partners in this respect.
