In response to what it called “baseless and misleading” media allegations, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) strongly denied claims of a likely postponement in the general elections.
The ECP, in partnership with President Arif Alvi, had already stated that the elections would take place on February 8, 2024.
Recent media sources indicated that a request is made to the ECP to postpone the general elections due to security concerns in Balochistan and the current wave of terrorism.
However, the ECP quickly addressed these reports, claiming that they are false.
The ECP announced in an official statement on social media platform X, “The news in media circles about a delay in the elections are completely baseless and misleading.” They are categorically reject by the ECP.

The commission also stated that rumors of an inadequate voter list are “completely false.”
In order to combat misinformation, the ECP stated its intention to file a complaint with the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against “peddlers of fake news.”
The commission has stated its intention to take legal action against anyone responsible for disseminating misleading information and has requested recordings and transcripts of news reports from various channels for review.
The ECP provided an update on election preparations, indicating that final electoral roll printing had begun as planned. The conference was led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, who announced that the final report on the redrawn seats will issues on November 30.
In cooperation with political parties, the commission prepared a code of conduct for the elections and ensured that election officials received timely training.
The Election Commission of Pakistan stated that required plans for printing ballot sheets and acquiring election materials are already completes, expressing satisfaction with the progress made in election preparations.
