Rawalpindi: General Asim Munir, the Chief of the Pakistan Army, recently traveled to Tehran for a crucial meeting with Iran’s Army Chief of Staff, General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri. The discussions focused on a wide range of topics of mutual interest, with a particular emphasis on expanding bilateral relations.
Historically, the relationship between the two nations has faced challenges due to the activities of Pakistani militants targeting Iran. Recognizing the shared threat of terrorism, military commanders from both sides affirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism in border areas. They agreed to enhance intelligence sharing, take effective actions against terrorist networks, and explore opportunities for greater cooperation in the security domain.
During the visit, General Munir also had the privilege of meeting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amire Abdollahain. They underscored the importance of strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran as a crucial factor in achieving regional peace and stability.
Upon his arrival, General Munir was warmly received at the Military Headquarters, where he was presented with a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces. This gesture further exemplified the respect and significance of his visit.
