On Monday, Former President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his faith in his son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, winning the upcoming elections. After much debate, the ECP and President Arif Alvi recently announced the official date for the general elections.

“The sun will rise on February 8 with the message of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s victory,” Zardari said in an official statement.

The former president thanked the public for the party’s victory in yesterday’s by-elections in Karachi’s nine local government constituencies.
“Sindh’s heart, Karachi, also resounded with the slogan ‘Jiye Bhutto,'” Zardari said, praising Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad’s victories as a “special message for the opponents.”
He urged every member of the party to become an ambassador of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and begin the election campaign.
Similarly, Bilawal congratulated the Karachi by-election winners, saying, “The public has spoken. The PPP’s win on February 8 is now written on the wall, God willing.”

Later in the day, speaking to the media in Karachi, Bilawal described the outcome of the local government elections as a “mere trailer” for what lies ahead in the next general elections.
He stated that, even if all of its political opponents united together , could not defeat PPP, and that the party will display its widespread support from Karachi to Kashmir on February 8.
In response to allegations of a phone contact between Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal stated that Zardari already spoke to Nawaz Sharif upon his return to the nation, calling it “old news.”
