In Venice, Italy a bus crashed off a bridge that was straddling a railway, the crash killed at least 21 people including two children, and injured twelve more.
The victims were rushed to the scene and assisted by firefighters according to La Republica authorities.
City hall spokesman told AFP, “The crash caused at least 20 deaths including two children.”
Firefighters said that after flying off of the bridge linking the Mestre and Marghera districts of the city, the bus caught fire.
The Italian newspaper reported that “It was a rented bus filled with tourists and many foreigners. They were all staying in Marghera and crashed when they went over an overpass in Mestre.”
Mayor Luigi Brugnaro expressed his condolences on Facebook saying, “Our community has been hit with tragedy this evening.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also expressed her condolences saying, “I’m in contact with Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and [Transport] Matteo Salvini as we follow along with updates on this tragedy.”
“The bus was traveling from Venice back home to Marghera. It lost control and flew off the road and off of the bridge. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this event,” said Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.
