In a historic victory for Pakistan women cricket team defeated New Zealand women first time in a T20 International match. This match played at University of Otago Oval Stadium, Dunedin
The seven-wicket victory turned out a huge milestone, fueled by outstanding performances from key players.
The role of pacer Fatima Sana cannot stow away, as she demonstrated tremendous bowling abilities. Fatima took three key wickets while allowing only 18 runs, limiting New Zealand to 127-6 after they chose to bat first.
The stage was then set for a disciplined batting performance, which opener Shawaal Zulfiqar delivered.
Pakistan got off to a good start in the chase because to Shawaal’s controlled innings of 41 from 42 deliveries. Partnership with Muneeba Ali (23 off 24), Shawaal created a platform that proved crucial to the victory.
Captain Nida Dar intentionally moved herself up the order after the first wicket went. Nida’s partnership with Shawaal, which totaled 51 runs for the second wicket, strengthened Pakistan’s position in the game.
Shawaal, making her New Zealand debut, recorded the highest score in a T20I with seven boundaries.
Despite the absence of important players, the experienced duo of Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz secured a smooth conclusion to the match, guiding Pakistan to a 10-ball triumph. Aliya Riaz’s critical unbeaten 25 off 12 balls with 2 fours and a six, proved critical in the historic victory. Bismah Maroof remained unbeaten with 13 out of 18 balls.
Earlier the day, Maddy Green of New Zealand emerged as the match’s top-scorer, with an unbeaten 43 off 28 balls. However, the joint bowling efforts of Fatima Sana, Nida Dar, Diana Baig, and Aliya Riaz prevented the White Ferns from scoring easily.
As the Pakistan women team celebrate their historic victory, 2nd match of the series will take place at same venue on Tuesday.
